Overview: Using our words is an important way to communicate our feelings with others, and sometimes there are other ways to express our feelings creatively. Support children in channeling their feelings into artful actions, and help them reflect on their sensory artwork afterward.


  • Outdoor space with a flat surface (e.g., black top, sidewalk),
  • Bubble wrap (either one long mural-size or smaller individual pieces for each child),
  • Washable paint,
  • Long piece of butcher block paper or large pieces of paper (enough for each child),
  • Painters’ tape,
  • Smocks
