Paper Mache Jurassic Period Volcano

Development Level: Preschool/Pre-K

Overview: Children will plan for, create, and explore an active volcanic scene representing the Jurassic period. Children will also have the opportunity to discuss their emotions before, during, and after the eruption.

Materials:

For the Volcano:

(Day One)

• (1) 2 Liter bottle
• Newspapers
• Masking tape
• (1) Large aluminum pan
• Flour
• 2 Measuring cups
• Water
• Butcher Paper
• Bowl
• Mixing spoon
• Scissors

(Day Two)

• Paint
• Paint brushes
• Outdoor materials (i.e., rocks, sticks, leaves, etc.)
• Plastic toy dinosaurs

For the Eruption:

(Day Three)

• Funnel
• Baking soda
• White vinegar
• Red food coloring
