Overview: Introduce primary colors and secondary colors, and learn about color mixing with this creative and hands-on activity!

Materials:

  • Thin cardboard (e.g., cereal box), cut into circles
    Note: You can cut the circles ahead of time, or have children practice tracing and cutting out the circles themselves, with your support. Whatever works best for you and the children in your class!
  • Red, yellow, and blue tempera paint
  • Paper plates (for the paint)
  • Cotton swabs or child-size paint brushes
  • Toothpicks
  • Child-safe scissors (if children are cutting out the cardboard)
  • Plastic cup or circular object to trace circles on the cardboard
  • Pencils
  • Red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and purple construction paper (one piece of each)
  • A color wheel (a printed out picture is fine)
  • Ruler
